The first year of life is a crucial time for brain development, with babies forming up to one million new neural connections every second. To help support this rapid growth, the Brain Builders program offers free resources for young and expecting moms in Texas.
Developed by Dr. Quianta Moore, Executive Director of the Hackett Center for Mental Health, the program is designed to strengthen early brain development through positive caregiver interaction.
“These neural connections shape the architecture of the brain,” Dr. Moore said. “Everything from communication and comprehension to emotional regulation and relationships depends on how the brain develops early on.”
Brain Builders offers both online and in-person classes, making it accessible for busy moms. The program is free and open to the public, with a focus on pregnant women and children under three.
In response to a report from the U.S. Surgeon General showing that 65% of parents feel isolated, Brain Builders also aims to foster a supportive community and provide evidence-based guidance on nurturing healthy brain development.
