A 22-year-old pregnant woman was shot at a sports bar in Alabama, resulting in the loss of her unborn baby, authorities said.
Hoover Police responded shortly after 1:40 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, to reports of a shooting at Walk-On’s Sports Bistreaux on Tattersall Park Drive, according to ABC affiliate WBMA.
When officers arrived, they found the pregnant woman with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. She was taken to a nearby hospital. While she is expected to survive, her unborn child did not, reports say.
The woman remains in stable condition.
Lieutenant Daniel Lowe of the Hoover Police Department said that the suspect is a 36-year-old man. He said the investigation is ongoing, but early information points to reckless firearm use by the suspect.
Authorities are working with the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office and plan to file formal charges on Monday, June 16.
The suspect is currently held at Hoover City Jail. His identity has not been released pending formal charges, according to CBS affiliate WIAT.
