New mothers at UPMC hospitals in York and Hanover received a special treat this Mother’s Day, as their newborns were dressed in handmade ice cream-themed outfits to celebrate the occasion.
Staff at UPMC Magee-Womens hospitals volunteered their time to crochet ice cream cone hats for the babies. The newborns also wore yellow onesies decorated with smiling ice cream cones and the phrase “the sweetest treats.”
UPMC Hanover and UPMC Memorial in York participated in the celebration, sharing photos of the newborns in their festive attire. The sprinkle-topped hats and themed onesies were made to mark Mother’s Day and bring joy to families.
“Every baby symbolizes love, life, and hope,” said Dr. Kenneth Oken, chair of obstetrics and gynecology at UPMC Magee-Womens. “It is a joy to honor these precious moments and a privilege to support our families. We wish all mothers a very happy Mother’s Day.”
In 2024, more than 6,500 babies were delivered at UPMC Magee-Womens hospitals across Central Pennsylvania, according to UPMC.
