Health Canada has issued a recall for two models of the Tommee Tippee Monitor with Movement Sensor Pad—model numbers 1082S and 1094—due to a potential strangulation hazard.
What’s the Risk?
The recall involves the cord attached to the monitor’s sensor pad, which can be pulled into a crib by a baby. If this happens, the cord may wrap around the child’s neck, posing a serious risk of injury or death.
Where Were the Products Sold?
In Canada, the affected monitors have been available for purchase at Babies “R” Us since November 2011. Thousands of units were also sold in the United States. While no injuries or incidents have been reported to date, the recall is being issued as a precautionary measure.
What Should Parents and Caregivers Do?
If you own one of the recalled monitors:
- Immediately ensure the cord is completely out of your child’s reach.
- Contact Mayborn USA, Inc. to receive a free cord cover kit:
- Call 1-866-214-1537
- Visit the Tommee Tippee website
The cord cover kit includes:
- Protective cord covers
- A new electric cord featuring a strangulation hazard warning label
- Updated usage instructions
Consumers are urged to take action promptly to ensure their child’s safety.
