DUBAI — British-Lebanese actress Razane Jammal, known for her roles in Netflix’s The Sandman and Paranormal, is set to release her first children’s book, Lulu & Blu.
Jammal shared the news on social media on Sunday. “What started as a little story I wrote seven years ago turned into a book for your little ones,” she wrote. “I’ve poured my heart into this and I’m thrilled to invite you all to our first launch in Beirut.”
The book launch will take place on June 25 at Minus 1, a community space in Beirut. Jammal will read from the story at the event. Lulu & Blu tells the tale of a vegetarian lioness, a friendly fish, and their unusual friendship.
Turning Point Books published the book, with illustrations by Lebanese artist Sasha Haddad. Haddad graduated from the Cambridge School of Art in 2014.
Jammal rose to international fame with her role as Lyta Hall in The Sandman (2022), based on the popular graphic novels. In the series, her character dreams of her late husband each night, only to discover he is hiding in the dream world.
In a past interview with Arab News, Jammal credited her mother for inspiring the subtlety she brought to the role. “I’ve always been extra, and my mom was far more subtle than I am,” she said. “I had to fine-tune myself to vibrate on her frequency — a frequency that was sweet, raw, vulnerable, and nurturing. I took that from her.”
Jammal also reflected on her upbringing in a tight-knit community in Lebanon. “I grew up in a place where you have 500 mothers and everyone feeds you and you feel safe — even if it’s not safe at all,” she said. “At the same time, we went through so many traumas, from civil wars to assassinations to losing all our money in another financial crisis.”
