FDA Issues Deadly Warning on Big Y Made-to-Order Sandwiches Over Salmonella Risk

by daisy

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has escalated a previous recall of made-to-order sandwiches from Big Y to a Class I recall. This classification means eating the product could lead to serious health problems or death.

The recall affects subs, wraps, and paninis made at Big Y stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut. The sandwiches were sold on May 20 and May 21, 2025. Nearly 6,500 units are believed to have been sold during that time.

The sandwiches contain cucumbers supplied by Bedner Growers Inc., which are under investigation for salmonella contamination. Salmonella can cause severe illness, especially in young children, elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems.

The FDA urges consumers to return the sandwiches or present their receipt to the store for a full refund. Although most customers have likely consumed the products, officials recommend checking freezers in case any sandwiches were stored for later use.
