Sydney, May 9 — Luxury baby brand Bugaboo has issued a recall of its Giraffe high chair following safety concerns related to loose screws that could pose a risk of injury.
The high chair, priced at $499 with an optional pillow set or $350 for the frame alone, is sold at major retailers including Baby Kingdom and Baby Bunting. The recall affects customers in both Australia and the UK.
According to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), the screws connecting the legs to the frame of the high chair may become loose and potentially detach while in use, posing a risk of the chair falling over. This could lead to serious injuries, particularly if the chair detaches while a baby or toddler is seated.
The notice also mentioned that incidents, including one injury, have already been reported involving the faulty high chairs.
Bugaboo has urged customers to stop using the high chair immediately. The company is offering a free repair kit, which includes updated screws, an improved tool, and clear instructions for proper assembly to ensure the chair’s stability.
A Bugaboo spokesperson confirmed that the recall was initiated after the company became aware of a safety issue regarding screws not being fully tightened during assembly. The company is proactively contacting all affected customers and reinforcing the importance of correct setup.
“Bugaboo is committed to the safety and reliability of every product, and this initiative highlights our focus on addressing any concerns quickly and effectively,” the spokesperson said.
No other Bugaboo products are affected by the recall.
