LINDEN — Students at Central Elementary in Linden raised $1,289.51 for the annual Diapers for Dimes fundraiser, benefiting The Flint Diaper Bank, which provides free diapers to families in the Genesee County area.
To celebrate the successful fundraiser, the students who raised the most money from each class were treated to a foam party. The event was made possible by ELGA Credit Union, which held a drawing for schools raising over $1,000, and Central Elementary was chosen to win the prize.
Jennifer Cooke, a fourth-grade teacher and student council advisor, shared that the fundraiser is part of a community effort led by ELGA Credit Union and ABC 12. This year, more than 40 schools in Genesee County participated in the campaign, with Central Elementary placing in the top ten.
“We’ve been participating for a few years, and we’re usually in the top ten,” said Cooke.
The fundraiser, which took place in April, encouraged students to bring in donations throughout the month. Student council members counted the money each Friday, and the top three classes that raised the most received rewards: a pizza party for first place, doughnuts for second place, and popsicles for third.
