PORT ANGELES, WA – Sunrise Meats Inc. has issued a recall for its Smoked Wild White King Salmon after state health officials found the product contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.
The affected salmon carries a sell by/use by date of July 21, 2025 and was sold exclusively at the company’s Port Angeles location.
The recall was triggered following routine testing by the Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA), which confirmed the presence of the harmful bacteria. Both the company and state officials are investigating the source of the contamination.
As of now, no illnesses have been reported. However, health authorities warn that symptoms of Listeria infection may take up to 70 days to appear.
Consumers who purchased the recalled product are advised not to eat it and to return it to the store for a full refund. Questions can be directed to Sunrise Meats Inc. at 360-457-3211.
Health Warning: Listeria Infection
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in pregnant women, older adults, young children, and people with weakened immune systems. Infections may result in fever, nausea, vomiting, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness.
Pregnant women are at particular risk. Though symptoms may be mild, Listeria can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, or life-threatening infections in newborns.
Consumers who have eaten the recalled salmon and experience symptoms should seek medical attention and inform their healthcare provider of possible Listeria exposure.
Health officials urge anyone who consumed the product to monitor for symptoms in the coming weeks.
