CLEVELAND, Ohio — To help combat infant mortality and diaper insecurity, the Akron Community Baby Shower will be held on Saturday, July 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The House of the Lord, 1650 Diagonal Road. The event will provide eligible Summit County families with essential baby supplies such as diapers, wipes, sleep sacks, and bottles.
Organizers say families will receive about one month’s worth of diapers, addressing a need that affects 1 in 2 U.S. households. Lack of access to diapers can prevent parents from enrolling children in daycare and returning to work.
To qualify, applicants must:
- Live in Summit County
- Be pregnant or have a child under 1 year old
- Have a household income at or below 200% of the federal poverty level
- Apply by Monday, June 30
The baby shower is hosted by Full Term First Birthday, a local initiative focused on reducing infant mortality and addressing racial health disparities, particularly in the Black community.
“This event provides critical items that promote safe sleep and a healthy start for our babies,” said Summit County Executive Ilene Shapiro.
Event sponsors include Summit County Public Health and the Department of Job and Family Services. For more information or to apply, call 330-926-5700 or visit the Full Term First Birthday website.
