Nationwide Beef Jerky Recall Due to Undeclared Fish Allergen

by daisy

WASHINGTON, N.C. (WITN) – Over 15,000 pounds of beef jerky and snack sticks are being recalled nationwide due to an undeclared allergen. Springville Meat & Cold Storage Co., Inc. has recalled the products after it was discovered that they contained fish (anchovies), which was not listed on the label.

The issue was identified during a routine inspection by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service. The affected products bear the USDA inspection mark “EST. 20528” and were distributed to retail stores nationwide.

The recall stems from a change in the company’s Worcestershire sauce, which previously did not contain anchovies. The new version of the sauce, which includes anchovies, led to the mislabeling.

To date, no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported.
