Coca-Cola has issued a voluntary recall for a batch of Topo Chico sparkling mineral water sold at Costco, citing potential contamination concerns. The affected product could contain Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a type of bacteria commonly found in soil and water. While this bacteria is generally harmless to healthy individuals, it may pose a risk to those with weakened immune systems, potentially leading to minor infections.
The recall, announced on June 2, affects 18-packs of 16.9-ounce (500mL) glass bottles of Topo Chico, which were sold at select Costco locations in Texas and Louisiana between May 20 and May 29. Consumers can identify the impacted bottles by the lot code #13A2541, located on the neck of the bottles and the outer packaging. The affected product is also identified by Costco item number 1439351.
No other Coca-Cola or Topo Chico products are part of the recall, which is being carried out as a precautionary measure. At this time, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.
Customers who purchased the affected product are encouraged to return it to Costco for a full refund, with no receipt required. For additional information, consumers can contact Coca-Cola’s customer support at 1-800-438-2653.
Topo Chico has earned a dedicated following for its distinctive mineral taste and strong carbonation, making it a popular choice for both casual drinking and mixing in cocktails. As summer approaches, the company urges consumers to check their stock to ensure safety before enjoying their beverages.
