Bugaboo North America, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has issued a voluntary recall of more than 18,000 Bugaboo Giraffe high chairs because of a serious fall hazard. The chairs’ legs can detach if screws loosen or fall out, potentially causing the chair to collapse even when the child is securely strapped in.
The recall affects chairs sold between May 2023 and April 2025. The $380 high chair, available in blue, black, natural wood/white, warm wood/gray, and white, has been popular among parents. Bugaboo has received 22 reports of the legs detaching—including 13 incidents resulting in minor injuries.
The problem stems from screws that can loosen during assembly or over time. If they fall out or fail, the legs may disconnect, causing the chair to tip over. Parents have shared their alarming experiences online, including one who reported the chair collapsing forward while their child was strapped in.
Bugaboo is offering free repair kits that include replacement screws, an improved Allen key, and detailed instructions to secure the legs.
